human doctors.
The AI generated an accurate braintumour diagnosis in less than 150seconds, compared to 20 to 30 minutes by a pathology lab. According to the research,which was published in the journal
Nature Medicine, the AI-based diagnosis was 94.6 per cent accurate, compared
to 93.9 per cent for human doctors.“With this imaging technology, canceroperations are safer and more effective than ever before,”said senior auther, Dr Daniel A Orringer, associate professor of neurosurgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, who co-led the study.
Using the new technique, brain tumour biopsies could be taken from patientsand analysed straight away during anoperation, therefore streamlining and improving cancer diagnosis.
